There's zero interest in keeping with any kind of historical period between names, technologies, forms of dress...and the person who gave it to me at the publisher's booth called it a genderbent Arthur story. Soujirou with his beloved swords in another world were able to meet with a beautiful girl named Sistina, who held the unique job of [Acolyte] a type of combat priest-maid. Cursed is a twist on the King Arthur legend. Previews of the play began at the Palace Theatre, London, on 7 June 2016, and it premiered on 30 July 2016. I feel like some of the reviewers marking it low missed something. Yes, please. I found myself caring less and less for most of the main cast as it went along although some of the secondary and minor characters were intriguing. I really loved the Weeping Monk and the Red Paladins (and by loved I mean, AAAAAH! Reception of book. However, I started and was immediately interested in the main character - didn't think she seemed dumb or boring as several reviews stated, but interesting - and really dug this story. I'm also a fan of some of Frank Miller's graphic novels, so I got this and then almost didn't read it after perusing all the flyleaf stuff (I think the design is gorgeous), because it seemed that since it was conceived by a screenwriter to be a Netflix series, it was either a movie tie-in or book-by-committee sort of deal, both of which I'm rarely up for. Master Chen Kaihu takes him in as his disciple (having failed to lure Kuochien away from the ladies long enough). Just a moment while we sign you in to your Goodreads account. One of my all-time beloved authors is David Gemmell, and this book made me nostalgic for his work. The show is based on the upcoming novel of the same name by Frank Miller and Tom Wheeler that had itself been announced a week prior and was expected to be published by Simon & Schuster in 2019. It's just not great. The names are there, the characters are there, but not the way you expect them to be. It’s very eye-catching. I like a lot of the ways the characters and story are reimagined, though.Thank you Netgalley and Simon & Schuster Canada for sending me a complimentary arc of this book.Thank you Netgalley and Simon & Schuster Canada for sending me a complimentary arc of this book. This was such a great read. There will be demand for this book, and I know who I will recommend it to, but unfortunately it's not for me.DNF’ing at 30%.
Cursed is an original novel based on the television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer and its spin-off Angel. Nimue experiences the brutality of the world at a very early age....her entire village is slaughtered and her mother dies. He aims to raise a harem of katanas, while hunting monsters for his daily necessities.
The characters are interesting, and the plot is engaging. Netflix has described the series as a "coming-of-age story whose themes are familiar to our own time: the obliteration of the natural world, religious terror, senseless war, and finding the courage to lead in the face of the impossible".
Overall, it's an enjoyable spin on of the round table stories we all know and love.As a fan of anything Arthurian I was really looking forward to this retelling from Nimue's perspective. Lots of blood, burning, breaking bones, crucifying, harsh language at times, etc. Unfortunately, it never quite hit the mark for me. In September 2018 it was announced that Zetna Fuentes is set to direct and serve as an executive producer for the first two episodes of the series. There's a lot of violence against women even within the first few chapters. Plot ... Cussler does not make his typical appearance in this novel. Over the course of her journey, Nimue will become a symbol of courage and rebellion against the terrifying Red Paladins, and their complicit King Uther." The book, an illustrated young adult novel entitled Cursed, was set to have Wheeler write the story and Miller provide the illustrations. The Arcanum is his first novel.“Paladin, paladin, choke and twitch, bitten by the Wolf-Blood Witch.”
